Interreligious Library of Books and Music

In a setting where resources are scarce, the Service maintains a library of books and music that provide opportunities for people to learn about those of other faiths, cultures, and patterns of thought. The library holds close to 1000 volumes dealing with religious institutions, faith, philosophy, non-violence and peacemaking. Many books deal directly with peacemaking and non-violence in the context of local religious traditions, musical heritage, and the recent nationalist conflict.

The Service also has up to 1000 recordings of music, emphasizing choral music based in religious traditions. It offers a wide variety of Western classical music and the most extensive collection of Orthodox liturgical music available in Sarajevo, as well as fine recordings of Islamic and Jewish sacred music.

The books and CDs held by the library are currently used by students, researchers, NGOs based in Sarajevo, journalists and others, including visitors from abroad who are seeking understanding of the recent upheaval in the region. Radio and TV stations in Sarajevo frequently use the special collection of religious music.

Enriching Existing Literature

In harmony with its goal of making literature available through its library, the Interreligious Service supports the publication of new resources.

In 2003-2004, Face to Face partnered with the Franciscan publishing house, Svjetlo Rijeci, to publish a book by local professor of sociology, Ivan Cvitkovic. The Interreligious Service coordinated preparations for the publishing of this book, Religious Confession in a Time of War.
